Toyota of San Bernardino Receives 2009 Best of Business Award

SAN FRANCISCO, August 12, 2009, Toyota of San Bernardino has been selected for the 2009 Best of Business Award in the Automotive category by the Small Business Commerce Association (SBCA).

The SBCA 2009 Award Program recognizes the top 5% of small businesses throughout the country. Using statistical research and consumer feedback, the SBCA identifies companies that we believe have demonstrated what makes small businesses a vital part of the American economy. The selection committee chooses the award winners from nominees based off statistical research and also information taken from monthly surveys administered by the SBCA, a review of consumer rankings, and other consumer reports. Award winners are a valuable asset to their community and exemplify what makes small businesses great.

Small Business Commerce Association (SBCA) is a San Francisco based organization. The SBCA is a private sector entity that aims to provide tactical guidance with many day to day issues that small business owners face. In addition to our main goal of providing a central repository of small business operational advice; we use consumer feedback to identify companies that exemplify what makes small business a vital part of the American economy.

Making a Difference in Youth Hockey

Toyota of San Bernadino Helping Through HockeyCliff Cummings, President of Toyota of San Bernadino, believes in teaching youngsters how to set and reach goals-and score a few along the way. Through support of teams in youth ice-hockey and roller hockey programs, the California dealership helps young atheletes learn important life skills, and provides them with a lot of excercise and fun. "Playing on a sports team instills values such as discipline, commitment and time management," says Cummings. "Hockey demands that players stay in shape physically and mentally, so it helps keep young people on the right track." To ensure that kids don't sit on the bench simply because they can't afford to play, Toyota of San Bernadino provides scholarships and helps defray expenses for equipment and tournament fees. In a sport where a broken piece of equipment, like a hockey stick, can cost $200 to replace, and skates can run $600, the donations are significant. "Cliff can be an amazing, selfless contributorfor kids who couldn't otherwise afford to suit up and play," says Nancy Corbett, a volunteer with the Southern California Amateur Hockey Association. "His support is far-reaching, from individual players to entire teams within our league."

Making a difference with The Boy Scouts Of America

Toyota of San Bernadino Helping the Boy Scouts of AmericaIn San Bernardino, California, Boy Scouts of America Troop 4 can count on Toyota of San Bernadino for some automotive expertise. The dealership revs up support with both financial donations and the use of its facility for Scouts to earn the coveted Auto Mechanics Merit Badge. "We help any way we can, because Scouting is such a valuable part of a kid's upbringing," says dealership owner Cliff Cummings. "The program teaches responsibility, teamwork, setting and achieving goals, time management and self-sufficiency-principles that build a foundation for success." With instruction from the dealership's team, Scouts can learn about how an internal combustion engine operates and the importance of proper vehicle maintenance. Cummings, his wife Bobbi, and the rest of the Toyota of San Bernadino staff are committed to other organized activities for youngsters as well. They sponsor youth ice hockey teams, making sure anyone who wants to play, regardless of financial status, has the opportunity. "My two sons have very different interests, as is the case in many families," notes Cummings. "It's important for a community to offer many different recreational opportunities for young people to try."
